Prochoice Mothers, please comment!

So often, prolifers pretend that anyone who has a child is going to be prolife, automatically. This is absolutely and completely untrue! Even the mother of Jesus, Mary, was given a choice before she agreed to carry the son of God.

So, I was hoping to see how many prochoice people either have children, or are currently pregnant.

So please! If you're prochoice and currently pregnant or raising children (or have finished raising children!) please leave a comment on my blog with your twitter username.

  5. I am a pro-choice mother. I have a 4 year old son and a 17 month old daughter, a pro-choice husband, and it's one of the many values we'll be passing on to both of our kids. I am completely unashamed and completely unapologetic. @InsaneArtGurl on Twitter

  6. Pro-choice Christian mother of two here. Have always been pro-choice, profoundly influenced by my mother, who grew up in the '50s and knew of girls who had to quietly "go away." I remember so clearly her joy over the Roe v. Wade decision! Her mantra was: "Legal abortion does NOT mean that anyone is FORCED to have an abortion. If you won't want one, don't have one! But when abortion is illegal, EVERYONE is forced NOT to have one--or to die from an illegal one. The point is to have THE CHOICE." Go, Mom! (She passed away six months ago, but would have loved this blog.) My Twitter ID is @misfitmimes.

  7. I'm a pro-choice mother whose proud to have raised two pro-choice sons and a daughter. My grandfather was a chiropractor who saw women after illegal abortions in the 50s and 60s. Despite being very conservative, he said what he saw made him realize this is a woman's CHOICE. My twitter is @dmf71 I am a member of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and I am not even religious. I just manage to respect the beliefs of others without imposing my own, and they represent that view beautifully.

  8. I'm a pro-choice mother of 5, pregnant w/ #6. My first child was conceived when I was 16 and I was nearly forced by my mother to have a late-term abortion (appointment was made at a NYC hospital...I ran away to escape the procedure). I realized then how crucial having a choice with regards to my own body is. It applies to ALL choices, from birth control to pregnancy to childbirth.

I also chose to have an abortion a few years ago, when ill, broke & already struggling to provide for the 5 children we have. I consider the choice I made part of being a good mother.

  9. I am a prochoice mother of 2 boys. Just because I didn't have an abortion doesn't meant I think nobody should be allowed to have one. I really loathe abortion, and I wish nobody ever needed one, but the fact of life is that women DO need them, or want them, and making them illegal doesn't stop women from having them - it just makes it dangerous for everyone involved.

Having said all that, I think we need greater access to free birth control if we're going to cut down on the number of unintended pregnancies.

  10. I am pro-choice and I have 5 children, all of whom I chose to have. This includes a teenage pregnancy and step-child. I'm glad I had the freedom to make those choices. I am not on twitter :o(

  11. I worked in an abortion clinic (and a birth center) all through my pregnancy, and loved the chance to remind the women I served iin the AB clinic that we were both making life-affirming choices. I had planned and saved and felt ready to be a mom, so my pregnancy was a joy and a blessing. They were faced with unplanned, unwanted pregnancies, they weren't ready for a(nother) child, and for the good of themselves and their children, they were choosing abortion.

Each woman knows what's best for her in her own life. Most women who have abortions are or will one day be mothers. I trust women and moms to make the best choices for their own families. I love being a mom, and I'm glad I got to CHOOSE to be one.

  12. I am a pro-choice mother of two and pregnant with my third. I firmly believe we all need to make personal choices for our own lives. Our choices are our business and part of our journey.

A community who supports women's choices actually ends up with less abortions.

No one is jumping up and down and celebrating their abortion experience. Pro-choice does not mean reveling in abortion--it means respecting each other's walks and giving support and trust to community members.

I firmly believe it is not our place to put judgment or know what is best for any one else.

  15. I have always been pro-choice, for as long as I could understand what that meant. My mom and I used to work the Reproductive Rights booth together, which flummoxed the trolls who would stop by to ask me if I wasn't glad that my mother didn't believe in abortion. Heh.

For as much as I was always pro-choice before I became a mother, my convictions increased hundredfold when I had my own baby (now I have two). I loved almost every moment of being pregnant, but I had plenty of friends who didn't. I realized then what is asked of every single woman who becomes a mother. That feeling only grew after I had my son and suffered PPD and he had reflux. My husband and I had wanted our son so much, had planned for him, were ready in every possible way, but it was still SO HARD. I started thinking how much harder it would be for someone who had not made that choice willingly. How could we even think about doing that to someone? It boggles the mind.

My kids and I will work the Reproductive Rights booth. Maybe I'll ask my mom to come with us.

  16. I am a pro choice mother of an amazing 2 year old little girl, I also have had an abortion, So I can speek for both sides of the matter. Parenthood is wonderful, but people that are not ready are not goin to see it that way. I hope that when my little one is grown she will have the rights to her body and the right to decide when she will become a parent. RE _S.C.

  17. I am a pro-choice mom. I have three kids and I had an abortion in 1997 before I even had kids. I can also speak for both sides. Being a mom is the best CHOICE I ever made and I would not change that, nor would I change the fact that I had an abortion at 17 due to the fact that I was not ready in any way to be a mom.
